Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is hosting a party to launch its unique deck of playable Art Cards: come celebrate with us and get your first look at this collectible object! Projected to be one of Modern Fuel’s most significant fundraising events this year, the cards will, at the same time, raise the profile of contemporary artists within Kingston and its environs.

Bring your ascots and comically-oversized reading glasses to Novel Idea on Tuesday October 19 and join us for an evening of papers, paper books, and paper tigers. We will be launching:

-The most recent issue of Syphon, Modern Fuel's arty newspaper, which smuggles in another serving of the "Hot Turkey Sandwich," a broadsheet of the Wolfe Island Ferry Story Cabal, edited by Steve Guy. Cabalists Jaime Forsythe and Kate Hallemeir will read. Prick up your ears!

Focus on the Arts All Candidates Meeting

7:30 PM on October 12 at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour

Please come out to the All Candidates Meeting to hear what candidates have to say about the arts and culture in your city. This coming election will be critical for the arts and we must elect an arts-friendly council! Candidates have been provided with a list of questions, but after the formal part of the meeting, members of the audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Kingston arts supporter Brian Osborne will be the moderator for the evening.


Spotlight Noir

After last year's phenomenal Solid Gold party, Modern Fuel's team of creatives went back into the lab and cooked up "Spotlight Noir." A Black and/or White dress code will be in effect. DJs include Sélavy, Yakul, and Willy Blake. Doors open at 9pm, Saturday, September 11, 2010.

SLOW DANCE

DJs haircut, LK and Abdell Drums (Paul, Laura and Blake) will keep the slow jams coming all night. Designated dancers will be mingling throughout the crowd, getting people up on the floor.

Doors open at 8pm. Party goes to 1:30am.

Dance cards, festive drinks, candy and cheesy decorations will abound.

Dress code: semi-formal to formal. Knock us dead. ...or whatever

This is a fundraiser for Modern Fuel.


Revolutions

From 7-9pm, CFRC djs Sealegs & Drew give a free workshop for women and trans folks on setting up a live PA and DJ-ing. Space is limited so please RSVP to cfrcops[at]ams.queensu.ca.

From 9-10pm, Kingston’s newest DJs (the ones who took the workshop) open up the night with music from their own collections.

10pm onward, Revolutions delivers a lineup of all-female CFRC djs Trishna, Seditious, E, Sealegs and Drew spinning everything from hip-hop to bhangra and latin to house: whatever moves you to a rebellious dancefloor insurgence.
