Opening Up the Box

On Saturday February 21st, 2009 from 3-5 pm Modern Fuel and the artist Christopher Flower invite you to experience a one-time only workshop entitled, “Opening up the Box,” an informative lecture that reveals the hidden processes of Flower’s art.

From 3-5 pm, Flower will showcase his working process through the de-installation of his thought-provoking exhibition, “Thinking Inside the Box,” currently on display at Modern Fuel. In the show, Flower uses video surveillance equipment to create illusionary effects and interactive games. By effectively pairing video and mundane everyday materials, Flower’s visually inspiring installations ask the viewer to contemplate the prevalence of visual material, surveillance and illusionism in our everyday lives. While the art itself is awe inspiring, the creative and mechanical processes employed by the artist have been the most mysterious aspect of the show until now!

Come and join us as we uncover the mystery created by the video surveillance techniques put in place by the artist, and the mechanics behind his vision. Talk, play and watch the artist’s mind at work.

Artist’s Bio: Christopher Flower draws from a variety of sources in his practice: conceptual art, illusionism, do-it-yourself invention, and the everyday. Flower gratefully thanks the Canada Council for the Arts for their generous support.
