Information about upcoming meeting
When: Tuesday July 10th 2007 @ 8pm
Where: Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre
Whom: Open to all Modern Fuel Members
Background
Finding a new home for Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is a pressing issue. Our organization must plan to contend with the uncertainty regarding the future of its space and facilities, triggered by the development of the North Block area and the building of the LVEC. After many years as Modern Fuel’s long-time landlord, the City of Kingston cannot commit to a long-term lease or promise to continue the current arrangement beyond April 30th 2008.
The Centre currently occupies about 1,600 sq.ft. of space for the Modern Fuel Gallery, State of Flux Gallery, New Media Workspace and an administrative office. The rent is very low representing a savings of $15,000-30,000 over prevailing downtown market rates.
It is the job of the Facility Relocation Committee to obtain a new facility with the capacity and resources necessary to successfully present a wide range of contemporary art projects and meet the objectives of the organization. A new facility is likely to increase expenditures on rent by two to five times the current level.
