Marija Hamed has been an active member of the Kingston arts community since beginning her studies at Queen’s University in 2000. Working in encaustic collage, her style continues to evolve, including the incorporation of transfers of her black and white photographs. She incorporates subdued elements common in everyday landscapes, such as electrical posts, trees and birds, then builds layers of color and texture through alternate materials to further express what these objects lack in their anonymity. Marija currently lives and works in Waterloo, Ontario and the Boston, Massachusetts area.
