Square Pegs Three!

August 18th at Dusk, Amphitheater at Market Square!

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, in association with Downtown Kingston, is excited to present Square Pegs 3, our third annual free screening of video art in Kingston’s Market Square. The program showcases the short experimental works of ten talented Canadian video artists and filmmakers, including Kingston’s Blake MacFarlane, Jocelyn Purdie, and Maayke Schurer.

The screening will take place in the amphitheatre at Market Square, which is located at the southeast corner of King and Brock. The show will begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 PM) on Wednesday, August 18th, 2010, and attendees are encouraged to come out early to visit community group booths that will be set up for the evening.

The program will feature an eclectic and provocative array of artistic approaches and subject matter. Produced during Modern Fuel’s High Octane Video Production Residency held for the first time this summer, Jocelyn Purdie’s video continues to explore the themes first broached in her work Habitus, a photographic essay on the duck blinds of Wolfe Island. Montreal’s Eugenie Cliché describes her submission, Symphonie sur un meme souffle, as a “no-holds-barred videographic world.” Her film centres on a wedding ceremony, ordained by a Mickey Mouse-like priest. Other videos deliver suspense, intrigue and the absurd.

The screening is approximately 60 minutes long, and aims to promote Canadian experimental film and video, as well as Modern Fuel’s New Media Workspace, an equipment and training resource for aspiring video artists in Kingston. This is a great opportunity to come out and support local and national video artists. Square Pegs 3 has been made possible as a result of the enthusiastic support of Downtown Kingston.
