DEADLINE EXTENDED - Square Pegs V Call for Submissions

Artists from Eastern Ontario, from Cobourg to Cornwall, are invited to submit short experimental video art for a juried screening at AKA Gallery (Saskatoon, SK) and as part of Modern Fuel’s annual Square Pegs event in Kingston’s Market Square.

call for experimental video art

This is a special year for Square Pegs V, as AKA and Modern Fuel are partnering to exhibit the experimental vanguard of film and video from Eastern and Western Canada. AKA will contribute a selection of works from the prairies and Modern Fuel will showcase work from Eastern Ontario. We are looking for short videos by artists from the region of Eastern Ontario including the following locations: Cobourg, Kingston, Minden, Ottawa, Peterborough, as well as others (see Map of Zone 4) to be shown in Kingston, Ontario’s Market Square on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 with the AKA showing in September

This year’s Square Pegs is particularly interesting because of the collaboration between two artist-run centers from different regions. People of both communities will be exposed to work of artists outside their area and artists will be exposed to new audiences. This is an open call with no restrictions on theme or subject matter that the submissions need to follow. The complete program will inevitably promote discussion about the similarities and differences between the two bodies of work from the East and West.

Video Submission Guidelines:

Please submit your short videos (max. 15 minutes in length) as well as an artist’s statement and a CV. We prefer submissions on CD, DVD or Flash Drive. NTSC DVD and MiniDV submissions will also be accepted.

CARFAC fees will be paid for screenings:

Submissions are due by Saturday July 7th, 2012 (applications postmarked for July 7th, 2012 will be accepted). For general submissions guidelines and restrictions, please visit our website (
