15th Annual Regional Juried Exhibition: Call for Submissions

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Modern Fuel's 15th Annual Regional Juried Exhibition will be presented at Modern Fuel from 29 June – 10 August 2013. Opening reception 29 June at 7pm. Submission Deadline: 1 June, 2013. Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre invites artists to submit works produced in visual and time-based disciplines such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, installation, and sound for our annual juried members’ exhibition. We also welcome proposals for performances, interventions and live works for presentation at the opening reception, or according to a schedule throughout the run of the exhibition. The curatorial premise for this group exhibition is to reflect the wide-ranging practices of artists in the region and to provide a forum in which to compare patterns emerging in those practices from one year to the next. Note: According to our organizational mandate, Modern Fuel will pay a professional fee to all exhibiting artists.

This year’s guest curator, Yaël Filipovic will be selecting from the submissions received for the exhibition in accordance with Modern Fuel’s mandate to support contemporary Canadian art practices that are innovative, experimental, and from diverse communities. Filipovic currently works at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and holds an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Toronto and a BA in Art History and Education from McGill University (Montreal). Her work combines her interest in research, art, activism and pedagogy. Past curatorial projects include Neighbour to Neighbour: Living Libraries (Foreman Art Gallery, 2011), ArtiFACTS of Belief (University of Toronto Art Centre, 2010), and Soliloquies: Reflections of Solitude (Two Rivers Gallery, 2008). Interested in the use of public space, her public interventions have taken place in both Toronto and Montreal. From May 2010 to August 2012, she was the Curator, Education and Cultural Action at the Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec developing their Community Art Laboratory.
