ORANGE CHAIR CAMPAIGN

Modern Fuel presents its annual Members’ Show and Sale from November 15 – December 5, 2014. Part exhibition and part fundraiser, the annual showcase of Members’ work in a range of artistic media is always a highly anticipated event. Funds raised are split 50/50 with artists. This will be the final exhibition at 21 Queen Street for the non-profit Gallery as it prepares to move to the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning in the coming weeks. To mark this significant event, Modern Fuel is offering for sale a piece of its history in the form of 25 limited edition orange chairs.

Established in 1977 as the Kingston Artists’ Association Inc, Modern Fuel has been an important incubator for contemporary art in the region. It has used the same Samsonite orange folding chairs for all its events over the decades. As we get ready to leave the historic downtown location we will say farewell to the chairs that have become synonymous with the KAAI.

25 Orange Chairs will be unveiled at the Members’ Show and Sale opening reception on November 15 starting at 7PM. The limited edition chairs have each been engraved with a beautiful gold plaque that reads “21 QUEEN 1977-2014” and will be available for $77.14. Each purchase helps support the acquisition new community resources for our space at the Tett Centre. A charitable tax receipt will be provided for a portion of the purchase price.

The orange chairs will be on display throughout the Members’ Show and Sale until December 5. Local artist, Mary Porter has created an accompanying video that showcases the chairs in many past KAAI/Modern Fuel events, and will be a delight for past and present visitors to enjoy. Thank you for helping us STEP TO THE TETT!
