Summer Job at Modern Fuel

MODERN FUEL ARTIST-RUN CENTRE is now accepting applications for New Media Workspace Coordinator , a unique and dynamic summer job opportunity in the field of contemporary art and new media!

As the New Media Workspace Coordinator (NMWC) for Modern Fuel, the selected applicant will work 30 hours per week for 13 weeks from June 1 to the end of August 2010.

Help hang work, set up lighting and put titles on the wall


Annual Deadline for Modern Fuel Programming Fast Approaching

Modern Fuel is currently seeking submissions for 2011-2012 exhibitions of innovative, contemporary artwork in any visual media. Emerging artists are welcome. Artist fees are paid. Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre facilitates the presentation, interpretation, and production of visual and time-based arts that explore wide-ranging aesthetics and probe a broad scope of formal and socio-cultural questions. We welcome proposals for solo and group exhibitions, performances, curatorial projects, collaborative projects, lectures, workshops and other events. Deadline: postmarked May 1st, 2010.

Come out to see "Hannah Free" at 7pm on Sunday, January 31 at the Ellis Auditorium on Queen's campus. Modern Fuel is one of the community sponsors for this Reelout event. It's more like they're sponsoring us! It will also be a great opportunity to see "We Become Our Own Wolves," a video produced by Jessica MacCormack during a Modern Fuel residency in the summer of 2007, for those who haven't seen it, and for those who have, to see it again.

Investigations of Wishes Lies and Dreams

In collaboration with Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, the Union Gallery presents the work of visiting Thai artist Sarawut Chutiwongpeti, and collaborators, in a multimedia installation focusing on the hybridity of new media and cross-cultural exchange. Chutiwongpeti's exhibition runs concurrently with an exhibition in Union Gallery's Main Space, Between Spaces, featuring the work of Kim Armstrong and Monique Baena-Tan. A reception and artists' talk will take place on December 5th from 6 to 8 pm.


Exhibition Assistance Deadline Fast Approaching

Every year Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is a Recommender for the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) Exhibition Assistance Awards. If your residence falls within zone 4 of the OAC's list of Exhibition Assistance Recommenders (see Map) you may send us your application in correspondance with the requirements of the OAC listed below. The next deadline is January 8, 2010.

Wishes, Lies, and Dreams: A Cross-cultural Collaborative Project

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, in collaboration with the Union Gallery, presents the work of visiting Thai artist Sarawut Chutiwongpeti, and collaborators, in a multimedia installation focusing on the hybridity of new media and cross-cultural exchange. The piece will represent the artist’s explorations of the in-between of nature and science, contemporary art and traditional culture.


New Media Workspace Update!

At the top of the homepage you'll recollect there's an item titled New Media Workspace. Before, it was okay. Now though, now it looks the same!
The title that is.
Once you click it, everything changes. We have our brochure online, forums, tutorials and videos. We basically have it all. And we want you to take a peek and get some use out of it.

The forums are brand new and an excellent place to voice all kinds of questions, concerns, issues and otherwise for the New Media Staff. They will be constantly monitoring and moderating the forums to assist with all your new media needs.
