Annual Call for Submissions at Modern Fuel

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre facilitates the presentation, interpretation, and production of visual and time-based arts. Our exhibitions engage with an array of approaches to contemporary aesthetics, and cover a broad scope of conceptual, formal, socio-political and cultural questions. We welcome proposals for solo and group exhibitions, as well as performances, curatorial projects, collaborations, lectures, workshops and other events.

Please submit application on our submittables page.

Receive Artist Fees

Modern Fuel is committed to supporting emerging professional artists, and as such we pay professional fees in accordance with the CARFAC Ontario guidelines. A professional artist is someone who:

* has specialized training in the artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions)
* is recognized as a professional by their peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition), and
* is committed to an on-going artistic practice

Our Exhibition Venues

Modern Fuel's programming strives to reflect the diversity of aesthetic practices both regionally and extra-regionally, according to submission criteria as determined by the Artistic Director and Programming Committee. Proposals are selected according to their critical and exploratory character – exploratory insofar as they pose significant questions (formally, conceptually and politically) within current artistic and broader socio-cultural contexts.

The State of Flux Project Room accepts applications from artists in the Kingston region (with a perimeter defined by Zone 4 ) according to the Ontario Arts Council's Exhibition Assistance Program, but with priority given to artists residing within a 100 km radius of the city of Kingston). The State of Flux has the same mandate as the Main Gallery, but applications are restricted in order to create more exhibition opportunities for regional artists.

Funding Opportunity: OAC Exhibition Assistance Recommender

Every year Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is a Recommender for the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) Exhibition Assistance Awards. The purpose of these awards is to provide assistance to individual artists with costs related to presenting their work for an upcoming exhibition.
