Modern Fuel has a long history of supporting and presenting experimental music in Kingston. Of the many events and activities that Modern Fuel has undertaken in recent years, one of the most popular have been the Vapours music concerts. Often held between exhibitions, these concerts show an expansive range of music, performance and sounds.  For five years now, Modern Fuel has hosted up to four Vapours concerts per year, each building on the success of the last. In 2013-14, we produced a publication (Syphon 2.2) devoted to this series, including essays from many participants and released our first bandcamp compilation Peripheral Visions.  In February 2015, a conversation between Jennifer Castle and Victoria Cheong of Healing Power Records was recorded as a podcast.

The Vapours series takes advantage of Kingston's geographical positioning, acting as a meeting place along the cultural corridor between Montreal and Toronto.  A hub of some the most exciting and inventive music making in Canada, Kingston is strengthened by the strong partnerships that our experimental music scene has produced. Modern Fuel has developed a key partnership with the local community radio station CFRC, continues to support the Tone Deaf Experimental Music Festival, as well as local designers and musicians.  Without the generous support of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts, this series wouldn't be as successful as it has become. A by no means comprehensive list of the performers who have participated in Vapours includes AJ Cornell, Zach Clarke, Michael Caffrey, Hector Centeno, Craig Leonard, Bile Sister, Lido Pimienta, Petra Glynt, IC/JC/VC, Mas Aya, Raissa Simone, Matt Rogalsky, Pop Talk, False Face, Sam Shalabi, Reena Katz, Freida Abtan, The House is Black, Domestique, Andrea Pensado and Alexandra Rodriguez.
