Local Media Arts Artist In Residence

Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre is seeking proposals for a Local Media Arts Artist In Residence from Feb. 17 to June 20, 2015. The artist cannot be enrolled in an academic institution, and must be working in at least one of the following categories: audio/sound art, documentary, animation, dance film/video, media art installation and new media, or any fusion thereof. The successful applicant will receive an honorarium of $5000, plus over $1000 in-kind support through free access to the equipment and resources available at Modern Fuel.

This residency is an excellent opportunity for an artist to work on their practice in a public venue. As part of this residency, the applicant is expected to spend between 15-20 hours per week on-site animating the media workspace through discussions, workshops and interacting with members and the general public. The artist is expected to give at least one talk on their own work, lead outreach activities related to the work they are engaged in and act as a mentor to emerging artists. They are also expected to assist Modern Fuel in helping provide the community with access to a diverse range of contemporary arts practices within the community, whether through developing online content or facilitating workshops on recently acquired rental equipment.

This Media Artist in Residence is a new initiative developed in partnership with the Cultural Development Fund, and is an exciting component of Modern Fuel’s relocation and relaunch at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning in 2015. The Media Artist in Residence is contingent upon receiving successful funding; if Modern Fuel is not successful in its funding applications, the project will be placed on hold.

NOTE: Modern Fuel cannot provide accommodations, and it is recommended that the application be within the region of Kingston and/or Eastern Ontario.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV, cover letter and 5 images of your work (or a link to a website) to submissionsmodernfuel@gmail.com
