Communications Coordinator Job Call

We are currently accepting applications from current post-secondary students for a Communications Coordinator position. Applications are due May 6, 2017. 


Call: Communications Coordinator

HOURS: 30 hours per week (12-5 pm, Tues to Sat, some evenings required)

DURATION: May 16, 2017 - July 1, 2017

LOCATION: Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning

WAGE: $14.00 / hour 




Located at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is offering an exciting opportunity for post-secondary students to gain some experience in the thrilling environment of contemporary art. Under the direction of the Artistic and Operations Directors the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for promotions of events and opportunities at Modern Fuel. These promotions include social media, posters, flyers, blogging, press releases, as well as maintaining communication with our members and the local art community. 


Tasks and Responsibilities

Ongoing duties:

 - Maintain and update Modern Fuel’s website and social media presence

 - Develop and deliver social media content

 - Contact press and other media in advance of exhibitions and events

 - Assist with updating and maintaining the membership and volunteer communications strategy; seek out new members and promote membership benefits

 - Facilitate video and photo documentation of the centre’s programming

 - Maintain and improve the Modern Fuel digital and physical communications archives, including updating the Flickr and Vimeo accounts with new material

 - Assist with print promotional material, including brochure, flyers and exhibition didactic material

 - Promote the New Media Workspace in order to generate new members and community interest 


Project Specific Tasks:

 - Develop and execute a rental promotions campaign, highlighting facility rental, target audience and potential sponsorships

 - Coordinate promotional activities to correspond with events and special programming

 - Contribute to the production of our bi-annual arts periodical; assist with the circulation of our call for submissions, promote current issue and assist with proofing of issue being developed

 - Execute promotions of our annual film screening

 - Develop and circulate a visitor and membership survey

 - Promote summer artist residency, highlighting workshops, artist talks and other activities 

 - Contribute to development of a communications strategy for our 40th anniversary programming, and begin preliminary promotions



- Some post-secondary educational background in Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Administration, Film, Museum Studies or other similar programs (can be currently completing degree)

- A strong knowledge of and passion for contemporary arts practices in Canada

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

- Skills and experience delivering exceptional customer service in a public setting

- Experience with basic office programs including database software, email, spreadsheets and word processing programs

- Familiarity with Mac computer systems is an asset- Knowledge and experience using social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook

- Adaptability, time management, initiative, positive attitude, and attention to detail are desired characteristics

- Bilingualism in both official languages is definitely an asset, but not required for the position

- Certifications in Smart Serve, First Aid/CPR are highly desired


This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
