Best of the Ottawa International Animation Festival

This February, Modern Fuel's New Media Workspace will host the “Best of Ottawa 2011,” a series of nine short animated films from the 2011 Ottawa International Animation Festival. The OIAF is the biggest event of its kind in North America. In September 2011 it received 2,005 entries from 75 countries of which 100 films were selected for the festival’s official competition.


A Video Screening and Artist Talk with Mansoor Behnam

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is pleased to present a program of short videos and an artist talk with Mansoor Behnam (Kerman, Iran) an experimental writer and filmmaker. The program showcases the short experimental film and video works produced by Behnam over the past decade.

The screening and artist talk will take place at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre in the main gallery starting at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2011.


Square Pegs Four

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, in association with Downtown Kingston, is excited to present Square Pegs 4, our fourth annual free screening of video art in Kingston’s Market Square. The program showcases the short experimental works of eleven talented Canadian video artists and filmmakers, including Kingston’s Maayke Schurer and Rebecca Anweiler.

The screening will take place in the amphitheatre at Market Square, which is located at the southeast corner of King and Brock. The show will begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 PM) on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011.

Premiere of The Gertrudes Music Video

Come celebrate Halloween with a costume party and video release. The Gertrudes, a nine-person ensemble playing instruments ranging from banjo to theremin will release their first music video, directed by Lenny Epstein, on Friday night. In addition to the premiere release and concert from the Gertrudes there will be special exhibit in the State of Flux Gallery.

Show Your Shorts

Back by popular demand, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre will once again host the popular Show Your Shorts Video Festival on Friday June 6th 2008. The screening, beginning at 7:30pm in the Modern Fuel Gallery (21A Queen St.), will feature a number of short films created by people from, or with ties to, Kingston's Queer community. Please don't forget to wear your shorts if you got 'em!
