Ontario Trillium Foundation Helps Local Arts Non-Profit Build Resiliency During COVID

MEDIA RELEASE April 28, 2022

Kingston, ON – In 2021, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre received a $53,700 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to hire an Outreach & Development Manager to transform the way programs are delivered and create a new fundraising model to ensure financial stability in the long term. Modern Fuel hired Kait Allen into this role in April 2021.

Thanks to their increased capacity over the past year, Modern Fuel has been able to build and strengthen relationships with members, donors and community partners; develop new COVID-friendly programming and outreach initiatives; and establish new strategies to generate revenue that will support long term resiliency.

As part of this new fundraising strategy, and in celebration of the organization’s 45th anniversary, Modern Fuel is excited to launch the Contemporary Arts of Kingston Engagement (C.A.K.E) Club! For $4.50/month, patrons of the C.A.K.E Club enable Modern Fuel to deliver innovative and inspiring programming, provide essential artistic resources to our community, and support the professionalization of artists. Patrons of the C.A.K.E Club contribute to the longevity of Modern Fuel in a sustainable and impactful way, while making a difference in the lives of emerging artists every month - all year long. The organization aims to grow the C.A.K.E Club to 45 patrons (or more!) as a celebration of 45 years of Modern Fuel and contemporary art in Kingston.

“We are so excited to be launching this new campaign,” said then Outreach & Development Manager Kait Allen. “Modern Fuel believes that art has the power to help us understand and respond to the world around us, uproot outdated systems, and spark meaningful connection with one another. If you agree with us, and would like to join us in our mission, please visit modernfuel.org/cake-club.”
