MEET ARTIST ALYSSA SCOTT
Alyssa Scott is a Canadian visual artist based in Montréal, Québec, working in several fields of practice, including installation, printmaking, sculpture, media art, and multidisciplinary art. Currently, she is especially intrigued by the meditative qualities of plant cultivation, the subtleties of inks and colour, and the artistry of paper cutting and its resulting cast silhouettes.
Through her artwork, she explores the tension between rootedness and displacement, and the ambiguous borders between the rural and the urban. She is particularly interested in the cyclical and transformative aspects of nature, contrasting them with human activity, and exploring the renewal and evolution of built structures.
Alyssa contemplates the contradiction between the ungraspable desire for permanency and familiarity, and the inevitably impermanent, ever-evolving, and fragile qualities of the shelters and land which sustain us.
